RETREAT: A TIME TO STRATEGICALLY WITHDRAW

I love the way that Ruth Haley Barton says it.

“There are times when we need to pull back from the battle line in our own lives rather than continuing to fight the same battles in the same old ways. We need to pull back from our busyness, from life in our culture, from other people’s expectations and our own compulsions, from whatever is not working in our lives.”

The bible reveals that we are involved in a battle between kingdoms. The Kingdom of this world is trying to shape you and form you in ways that lead to exhaustion, distraction, and ultimate destruction. The Kingdom of Jesus is about healing, restoration, and abundant joy.

We need to pull back from the battle lines. See where we’ve been unintentionally living by the ways of the world. Have God reveal and heal our wounds. Take a rest from a life of constant activity and just be with God. Listen for His invitation on how to partner with him in his work. Are you ready?
